The Department of Oncology in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and the Department of Biostatistics in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health are jointly seeking applicants for a leader of the Oncology Biostatistics/Bioinformatics Division within the Cancer Center.  The successful applicant will have joint departmental appointments in Oncology and in Biostatistics, and will be charged with leading the development of a new trans-departmental multidisciplinary Program in Quantitative Sciences for Cancer Research.  The director of this program will have major opportunities for leadership, mentorship, and scholarship, working with a broad base of faculty focused on quantitative analysis of cancer research.

The ideal applicant to this position will be an individual with an international reputation as a leading cancer biostatistician with significant leadership experience, interested in collaborative research, education, and program building. Resources will be available for recruitment of additional junior faculty in the Division.

The Division of Oncology Biostatistics and Bioinformatics of the department of Oncology, currently includes nine PhD level faculty members; five masters level statisticians or bioinformaticians, three senior database designers and programmers.  It is responsible for coordinating and supporting the clinical and basic science research activities of the Cancer Center.  Investigators in the Division are involved in a very wide range of collaborative activities in cancer research, including multiple disease specific SPORE grants and Program Projects.  The Division members work within a close community of investigators studying quantitative cancer research methodology in the Departments of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Pathology, Urology, and Environmental Health. These faculty, many of whom have joint appointments within these Departments, comprise membership in a newly constituted cancer center Program in Quantitative Sciences for Cancer Research.

Staff Biostatistician (2-3 positions)

These positions require a Master’s degree in biostatistics, computer science or statistics and practical experience in biomedical study design and analysis. Strong written and oral communication skills are necessary, and experience with a range of statistical software is required.

Tenure Track Faculty (2 positions)

Suitable candidates will hold a Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology or related quantitative fields, with interest and experience in clinical trials, diagnostic/screening studies, and translational research, primarily in cancer. We welcome applications from candidates at any academic rank. At this time we are not recruiting for individuals whose primary interest and experience is in Bioinformatics.
